The “Issues”-From a Kid’s Point of View
The reason I wrote this blog is so kids will get a good idea of everything that is going on-with the economy, election, etc. We have to know what is going on just as much as grown-ups do, right? Well, the start of it was this huge “economy collapse” thing, which I will explain below.
Election
I bet you have heard about the pairs of running mates? McCain and Palin? Obama and Biden? And I bet you’ve also heard that Palin is probably the worse vice-president candidate in the entire history of presidential stuff? She is so horrible that she made it so the polar bears didn’t get into the endangered list only the threatened list. The threatened list does… Nothing at all! The endangered list would have made it that you can’t kill any of those animals, so let’s say that cats were on the endangered list, although they’re not, then you wouldn’t be allowed to kill any cats at all no matter how small, how big they were. I didn’t know this, but my mom just told me, but the endangered list also makes people reduce things that are affecting the animal so if the polar bears were on the endangered list it would also help the environment since they would also have to reduce greenhouse gasses.
Now what should I say about Obama? Maybe that he is able to articulate much better than McCain is? Maybe that his plans are much more organized than McCain’s are? Maybe that Joe Biden is a really good fit for him and Palin is the worse vice president in the history of presidential stuff? Maybe that Obama has a perfectly great plan about raising taxes for the wealthy and reducing taxes for the poor, and McCain wants to do the absolute opposite? Sorry to all of you McCain people but I just don’t see why you are!
Interruption:
Gryphy is my little brother, in case he comes up again, and he is the cutest little brother in the entire universe, and what he is about to say I totally agree with!:
Gryphy says: “Obama!” [The other day he said, “I like to move it, move it!” He also said, “McCain will be a bad president; Obama will be a good president!” And he just said “Obama will be a good president!” again just now!]
Back to my story…
And I bet you’ve heard that McCain is the oldest presidential candidate in the history of presidential stuff, so if he dies, Palin will become president. Well that’s kind of drastic, talking about dying, but it’s true. Another thing I don’t like about Palin is that she never explains anything, she never answers any questions, she only talks about how she is going to be the greatest vice-president ever (total lie) and she never explains why, and I don’t get why she even is on the Republican/McCain side anyway. Well, I get it, because she is obviously so stupid she goes with it, but I don’t get why anyone would do it anyway.
I also think that even though Palin is a woman and though I highly wish that women could be presidents or vice-presidents just as much as men are, I’m not that easy to get. If it was a good woman, like Hillary Clinton, then I would be more supportive, well I would be supportive at all. Palin is just a woman that is not my style, a Republican, the worst vice-president in the history of presidential stuff, and is on McCain’s side. She is not my style because she’s not able to articulate anything, sort of like McCain but even worse, and she keeps going on saying the exact same thing when you need deeper reasons. Why is she going to be a great VP? Obviously she’s not, but if she was even able to say anything to make anyone feel like they believe her at all, that would have been a bit better, because now, she is not able to say a single thing about herself without making everyone laugh.
Gryphy just added: “McCain is a bad guy, and Obama is a good guy!” “Obama is really good!”
Now here are perspectives on Obama:
I love how Obama is so respectful of everyone including McCain, although he probably doesn’t like McCain. He’s able to describe and explain everything, everything, everything. McCain is not able to do that, he just says what he is going to do and not how he is going to do it.
My mom just told me that McCain has a campaign that says we are not in the real part of
Below is a diagram showing exactly how many electoral votes in which states McCain would need to become president. As you see it is much less than Obama, and so we really don’t have anything to worry about if you are an Obama person. But we are still not there because as you see, below that, shows the real polls. And although Obama has more than 270 electoral votes, McCain could still win, although I don’t see why because he is not able to articulate anything at all, and I don’t see why anyone would like someone who can’t explain how he is going to do all of these “great” things, even though he says he is going to. And obviously he’s not going to.
Here are the polls as they are today, 10/19/08:
Here is McCain, as president, and as you can see, he will need more than half the country to be president and get more than 270 electoral votes:
Economy
First, people were buying houses with a loan from the bank. A loan is an amount of money that the bank gives you if you can’t afford a house, and the bank counts on you to pay the loan back. Then, the bank started selling loans. That means that someone sort of takes over the loan by buying the loan. That’s where the bank came in. The banks started making people do that like crazy. Then everyone who bought the loan sold the loan to someone else who did the exact same thing over and over. And all the credit going around made everything collapse and no one knew the real price of anything anymore. If no one really knew about the loans nothing really happened but once people started figuring out about it, the bank collapsed.
What this means for you and me, kids, is that once the economy collapses no one will have any money and the bank will start holding onto it like Linus holds onto his blanket. (I didn’t actually think of the line about Linus but I read it in the Kids’ Post).
Environment
The thing that is happening with the environment is that all the greenhouse gasses as they are called* are polluting the world and so that it puts them in the atmosphere and it is trapped inside the earth which is then raising the temperature. The result of this has a lot to do with animals like polar bears which don’t have enough food to live on, which has to do with the food chain, which has to do with there not being enough ice and underneath ice is what seals eat, and polar bears eat seals, and polar bears don’t have enough to eat because the seals don’t have enough to eat, and the seals are dying off.
*I don’t quite know what the greenhouse gasses are, but what I do know is that the greenhouse gasses come from pollution, oil, and fossil fuels.
To reduce global warming, we need three Rs, one of which I just used. These are reduce, recycle, and reuse. Examples: for reducing, you can try to avoid flushing as many times as you “go”*; for reusing, if you’ve outgrown clothes that your little brother or something might be able to use, you give it to him. And for recycling, have a box for trash and recycle, and stick all of the paper and stuff into the recycling bin.
*A really good experiment for that is to stick a bottle filled with water and a few rocks into your tank in the toilet and it will reduce how much water you are using to flush (6-7 gallons).
